We use Your Personal Data to provide and improve the Service. By using the Service, You agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
1. Interpretation and Definitions
Interpretation
The words of which the initial letter is capitalized have meanings defined under the following conditions. The following definitions shall have the same meaning regardless of whether they appear in singular or in plural.
Definitions
For the purposes of this Privacy Policy:
- Account means a unique account created for You to access our Service or parts of our Service.
- Application refers to School Journey, the software program provided by the Company.
- Company (referred to as either "the Company", "We", "Us" or "Our" in this Agreement) refers to School Journey Inc., 1111B S Governors Ave STE 7751.
- Country refers to: Delaware, United States.
- Device means any device that can access the Service such as a computer, a cellphone, or a digital tablet.
- Personal Data is any information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual.
- School means the educational institution (e.g., a K-12 school) that has entered into an agreement with Us for the use of the Service.
- Service refers to the Application.
- Service Provider means any natural or legal person who processes the data on behalf of the Company. It refers to third-party companies or individuals employed by the Company to facilitate the Service, to provide the Service on behalf of the Company, to perform services related to the Service, or to assist the Company in analyzing how the Service is used.
- Student Data means any information defined as "education records" under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act ("FERPA") that is directly provided to Us by a School or that We generate at the direction of a School.
- Usage Data refers to data collected automatically, either generated by the use of the Service or from the Service infrastructure itself (for example, the duration of a page visit).
- You means the individual accessing or using the Service (such as a parent, legal guardian, or school faculty member), or the company, or other legal entity on behalf of which such individual is accessing or using the Service, as applicable.
2. Our Commitment to Student Privacy
We are proud to be a trusted partner for schools. We are committed to the responsible handling of Student Data and adhere to the following principles:
- Compliance with FERPA: We comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. The School is the primary controller of Student Data, and We act as a "School Official" under FERPA, processing Student Data only for the purpose of providing the Service as directed by the School.
- No Sale of Student Data: We will never sell or rent Student Data.
- No Advertising to Students: We do not use Student Data to direct advertising to students. Our Service does not contain third-party advertising.
- Limited Use: We use Student Data solely to provide and improve the Service for the School and its users, and for no other purpose.
3. Collecting and Using Your Personal Data
Types of Data Collected
Data Provided by Your School
To provide the Service, your School provides us with data from its student information system (e.g., Blackbaud). This data is cached in our systems to ensure the Application functions correctly and may include:
- Student and Parent/Guardian names
- Email addresses and phone numbers
- Class schedules and course information
Contact information (email, phone number) is only made visible to other users within your School community if a parent has opted-in to share that information within the School's directory settings (e.g., in Blackbaud).
Personal Data You Provide
While using Our Service, We may ask You to provide Us with certain personally identifiable information that can be used to contact or identify You. This may include, but is not limited to:
- Email address
- First name and last name
Usage Data
Usage Data is collected automatically when using the Service. This may include information such as Your Device's Internet Protocol address (e.g., IP address), browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that You visit, the time and date of Your visit, the time spent on those pages, unique device identifiers, and other diagnostic data.
Use of Your Personal Data
The Company may use Personal Data for the following purposes:
- To provide and maintain our Service, including to monitor the usage of our Service.
- To manage Your Account: to manage Your registration as a user of the Service.
- To contact You: To contact You by email, push notifications, or other equivalent forms of electronic communication regarding updates or informative communications related to the functionalities of the Service.
- To manage Your requests: To attend and manage Your requests to Us.
- For other purposes: We may use Your information for data analysis to identify usage trends and to evaluate and improve our Service, products, services, and your experience.
4. Sharing Your Personal Information
We may share Your personal information in the following limited situations:
- With Service Providers: We share information with a limited number of trusted third-party Service Providers who help us operate, secure, and improve the Service. These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and are prohibited from using your Personal Data for any purpose other than to provide services to us. Our key service providers include:

In such an event, the acquiring company will be contractually bound to honor the commitments made in this Privacy Policy.
- With other users: When You share personal information or otherwise interact in areas accessible to your School community, such information may be viewed by other users within that community as permitted by School directory settings.
- With Your consent: We may disclose Your personal information for any other purpose with Your consent.
We do not have any affiliates and do not share data with affiliates.
5. Retention and Deletion of Your Personal Data
Data Retention
The Company retains an active sync with the School's student information system. We will retain Your Personal Data as long as you are an active member of the School community (e.g., a current parent, student, or faculty member) and your account is active.
If a family or faculty member leaves the School, their data is removed from our active systems as part of our sync process.
Data Deletion
You have the right to request that We delete the Personal Data that We have collected about You. You may contact Us to request access to, correct, or delete any personal information that You have provided to Us. We will process such requests in a timely manner.
Please note, however, that We may need to retain certain information when we have a legal obligation or lawful basis to do so (e.g., at the direction of the School to maintain an education record).
6. Disclosure of Your Personal Data
Business Transactions
If the Company is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, Your Personal Data may be transferred. We will provide notice before Your Personal Data is transferred and becomes subject to a different Privacy Policy. Any successor entity will be required to uphold the commitments made in this policy.
Law Enforcement
Under certain circumstances, the Company may be required to disclose Your Personal Data if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g., a court or a government agency).
7. Security of Your Personal Data
The security of Your Personal Data is important to Us. We use commercially acceptable means to protect Your Personal Data, including encryption of data at rest and in transit. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While We strive to protect Your Personal Data, We cannot guarantee its absolute security.
8. Children's Privacy and COPPA
We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA"). Our Service is primarily directed to parents and faculty. However, some Schools may wish to enable access for students.
If a School enables student access, we rely on the School to provide consent on behalf of parents for the collection of personal information from children under 13 for the use and benefit of the learning environment. This is permitted by COPPA under the "school official" exception. If you are a parent and have questions about your child's use of the Service, please contact your School.
If we learn that We have collected Personal Data from a child under age 13 without verifiable parental consent or School consent, We will take steps to delete that information from Our servers.
9. Links to Other Websites
Our Service may contain links to other websites that are not operated by Us. If You click on a third-party link, You will be directed to that third party's site. We strongly advise You to review the Privacy Policy of every site You visit. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.
10. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update Our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify You of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
